The Weight Of The Talented Tenth

The breakdown of Negritube

THE TOP HAT

The top hat is a 1980’s tv with color bars. TV programming used to go off at night. There is very little imagination on tv these days. Negritube is like an old school tv that turns television programming off temporarily so imagination can take over so that creative writing can be conceived while using color to interpret story.

THE MONACLE

A monacle is a corrective lens for a visual slight in one eye and was a high fashion article of sophisticated wealthy upper classmen. They wore a top hat and a morning coat to complete the look. Negritube represents modern day sophistication in screen writing and we intend to make our writers wealthy upper classmen in their respective communities. Our Monocle is a slave chain because most of our underrepresented writers correct the sight coming from the left hemisphere of their brain with the memory of what oppressed their Africanized logic. We capitalize on regaining our sight through our history’s lore.

THE CURLED MOUSTACHE

The curled moustache is two cameras representing that Negritube is a distinguished writer’s film and tv green-ligting company. If you had cameras curling outward from the center of your face it would be recording your ears. Negritube encourages you to write as though you’re filming what you’re listening to from the world around you.

THE BOWTIE

The bowtie finished off the look of the decorous gentleman in the 20’s and ours is made of an Emancipation Proclamation scroll and tie. Negritube teaches writers to use the Emancipatory Narratives of their ethnic experiences to temper their writing such that they tell stories with a liberated mind that’s not held captive by conformity.

OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM

Galvanizer/Inventor/Philosopher/Writer

Michael Casey

Michael Elton Casey has been committing himself to liberating the minds of the ethnically underserved since he was a wonder boy preacher at the age of 7 in Indianapolis Indiana. Crowds would flock to see the Black boy on a step stool give sermons with the conviction of a NAACP freedom fighter. After giving the commencement speech at Martin University congressman Andre Carson pulled him to the side and told him he was the next Barack Obama, having heard the glowing praise C-SPAN’s Brian Lamb gave him after a thought-provoking interview at the Washington Seminar Series in 2008. He was told in front of an audience of 600 at Washington University, “I don’t know who you are young man, but in five years we’re all going to be taking orders from you.” At the behest of the universe’s intervention, Michael took a round-a-bout to come to the place political leaders and magnetized proselytes saw him arriving at years prior. Yet, the course of his navigation adorned him with the resilience, fortitude, bravado, and self-sacrifice that made his desire to emancipate Black people an obsession more than a vocation. At the precipice of embracing his role as deliverer, he gives you Negritube Media Enterprises a nonprofit 501c3 company that gives the world screenplay writers in place of activists, buzz builders in place of community organizers and readers in place of revolutionaries. Having written his first novella at the age of six and watching it be misappropriated into a cartoon he committed himself to dignify writing the way a statesman honors character. Taking the character from value systems and putting it in story gives the former fireman, current Hollywood barbershop owner and single father of an extraordinary two-year-old son who he commutes to see weekly from his home in Los Angeles to Houston, gratification. To further society in it’s evolution from mammal to sentient being Michael has given the world a gift in a company called The Movie Book Club. This is an MLM that is the distribution company for the books that Negritube publishes and inherent within it is something that his late companion Chad Boseman taught him when he was cutting his hair, “You gotta give freedom to them in doses that they can digest.”

Vice President

Tony Merkurii

Tony Merkurii is a project kid from Long Island. Yes…that Long Island. While millionaires and heiresses were partying on yachts just around the corner, Tony was forced to endure the trenches of black Long Island; A land made of murder and mayhem. But in his bedroom, he would use his real life terrors and imagined monsters to craft what would become his abstract imagination. Finding solace within four walls, Tony dove into notebooks; Warping his reality into clever storylines, climactic battles and maddening twists. Influenced by such figures as Spike Lee, Wes Craven, Quentin Tarrantino and Rob Zombie, Tony merged silverscreen psychopaths with the real ones just six floors below him. From attending college in Upstate New York, to the hectic Hollywood streets, attending film school in Californina, Tony has remained an observer; Witnessing life and the people inside of it, and bending it into a story to bring nuance, light and fright into its reader.

Secretary of Strategic Communications

Vincent Bowe

Vincent Bowe is a visionary who boldly departed from the conventional course of Hampton, Virginia, to forge his own trail as a writer and brand strategist in the heart of Los Angeles. The youngest of four siblings, Vincent’s lifelong fascination with the worlds of film, sports, and television has driven his journey from the very beginning. Even in preschool, his innate gift for eloquence caught the eye of his astute teacher, who urged his parents to let Vincent share the powerful words of historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesse Owens over the school intercom. This early exposure set the stage for his passion for speaking and acting, which he diligently nurtured through his school years, all while excelling in athletics. But as high school graduation loomed, Vincent faced a pivotal crossroads. He grappled with a defining choice: a path to a potential football scholarship, which, for many, led to tales of bygone glory, or the slim one percent chance of an NFL draft and the fleeting career it often entailed. Amidst the mounting pressure from coaches, community expectations, and even his own family, Vincent made the life-altering decision to channel his talents and ambitions toward the worlds of filmmaking and writing. However, his passion for sports and his desire to secure a stable career while pursuing his dreams in film and entertainment led him to make a strategic move. Vincent enrolled at Towson University, in Baltimore, Maryland where he credits the rich culture for helping him hone his love for performance arts. In pursuit of a more rigorous curriculum, Vincent later transferred and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University. Following graduation, Vincent found Richmond, Virginia somewhat underwhelming in terms of opportunities and growth. So he made a bold choice. Packed with determination, he loaded his car, bid farewell to his relatives back home in Hampton and Newport News, and embarked on a three-day road trip to California, accompanied only by a few belongings, his loyal pitbull, and a dream. Fast forward to today, and you’ll find Vincent Bowe as a source of inspiration, impacting lives through various mediums that encompass storytelling, motivational speaking, and entrepreneurial endeavors. He published “The Elite Way Series,” which was originally conceived as a screenplay before he made the decision to transform it into a series of novels. From there, he made a commitment to hone his craft by amassing a portfolio of screenplays across various genres, from comedies to drama and gripping crime-thrillers. His journey, marked by captivating novels and profound wisdom, continues to evolve. His prolific output prompted collaborations with a diverse array of creatives, from artists and graphic designers to digital marketers and fellow writers. Vincent was driven by the process of transforming raw ideas into polished creative works, and this passion led to the creation of PeakHouse, a dynamic creative agency headquartered in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. With a talented team of up-and-coming designers and creatives by his side, Vincent has made his mark in the worlds of business, branding, and creative storytelling.
